Privacy Policy

Paused is a screen-time control app for iPhone made by Worth A Try Co. This policy explains, in plain English, what we collect, why, and what control you have over it.

The short version (the important bit)

Paused blocks apps through Apple’s Screen Time (Family Controls) framework, which is designed so an app can enforce limits without seeing your activity. Paused cannot read your messages, your browsing, your photos, or anything you do inside any app. Which apps you choose to block, your schedules, and your streak stay on your device.

The rest of this policy covers the small amount of subscription, attribution, diagnostic, and product-analytics data the app uses to run and improve.

What the app uses

  • Screen Time / Family Controls data (on device). The list of apps you choose to block and your schedules are managed through Apple’s framework and stored on your iPhone. We don’t receive the contents of your usage.
  • Local app data. Your onboarding choices, schedules, streak, protected minutes, and world progress are stored locally on your device. Paused never uploads this product data or your Screen Time selections to Firestore.
  • Anonymous cloud identity. When you start onboarding, Firebase creates a pseudonymous account identifier without requesting your name, email address, phone number, or contacts. This identifier is used only to secure the device registration described below; it is not a Paused login and the app continues to work when Firebase is unavailable.
  • Notification registration. If you allow notifications, Firebase Cloud Messaging receives an APNs/FCM device-registration token. Paused stores that token with the anonymous identifier, notification authorization state, app version, locale, timezone, token freshness, and your optional marketing choice. It does not include the apps or categories you protect. Protection alerts are functional; occasional tips and special offers remain off unless you explicitly opt in, and you can opt out again in Settings.
  • Subscription status. If you subscribe, our payments provider (RevenueCat, on top of Apple’s App Store) tells the app whether your subscription is active. Payment itself is handled by Apple — we never see your card details.
  • Diagnostics & product analytics. Firebase Analytics receives its basic automatically collected app lifecycle data. Firebase Crashlytics receives crash diagnostics. Mixpanel receives pseudonymous onboarding, purchase, and feature events so we can understand the product funnel. These services do not receive which apps or categories you block, Screen Time selection tokens, messages, browsing, or personal content.
  • Install attribution. Apple may provide an Apple Search Ads attribution token. RevenueCat can use that token to attribute an install or purchase to an Apple ad. Paused does not use it to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
  • Localization. Paused can download updated translated text through Loco and cache it on your device. Your Screen Time selections and product data are not sent with those requests.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t sell your data. Ever.
  • We don’t see or store the content of your messages, browsing, or the apps you block.
  • We don’t require your name, email, or contacts to use the app.

Third parties

Paused relies on Apple (App Store, Screen Time, APNs, and Apple Search Ads attribution), RevenueCat (subscription management and purchase attribution), Firebase (anonymous authentication, basic analytics, crash reporting, device registration, and cloud messaging), Mixpanel (pseudonymous product analytics), and Loco (localization delivery). Each processes only the limited data described above, under its own privacy terms.

Paused does not use Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework because it does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

Your choices

  • You can revoke Screen Time permission any time in iOS Settings, which stops Paused from blocking apps.
  • You can disable notifications in iOS Settings and turn optional tips and special offers off inside Paused Settings.
  • You can delete the app to remove locally stored product data and stop future collection. To request deletion of pseudonymous service data, email us.
  • Manage or cancel your subscription in iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.

Children

Paused is intended for people managing their own screen time and is not directed at children under 13.
